About Me
I followed the expected path for a long time. Then my body made me stop.
Hi, I’m Joo.
I’m a mum of four, an Integrative Health Coach, sound therapist, and advocate for people navigating complex and often misunderstood health conditions.
I grew up following the path I thought I was meant to take: an Oxford degree, investment banking, and a career that looked successful from the outside.
But over time, I realised that achievement alone wasn’t the same as fulfilment.
Then life changed…
I was trying to balance a demanding career with raising young children, caring for my mother through a terminal cancer diagnosis, and managing my own health, which was deteriorating in ways I couldn’t explain.
Despite seeing more than ten consultants and spending years searching for answers, I was repeatedly left feeling unheard.
Eventually, I received a diagnosis of hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (hEDS). The diagnosis brought a huge sense of validation. It didn’t solve everything, but it finally gave me an explanation for what I had been experiencing for years.
When I discovered there was no clear pathway to care, and that my children might also be affected, I knew I wanted to help create something that I had needed myself.
I retrained as an Integrative Health Coach through the College of Naturopathic Medicine combining evidence-informed health education with my own lived experience.
Around the same time, I discovered sound therapy at a retreat a friend invited me to. The moment I experienced the resonance of the singing bowls, I felt something shift. That experience led me to undertake extensive professional training in therapeutic sound, including a 200-hour Nāda Yoga (Yoga of Sound) Teacher Training with Leo Cosendai, exploring gongs, voice, mantra, meditation, neuroscience, and nervous system regulation. Along with the Peter Hess® Sound Massage Method, one of the most comprehensive approaches to therapeutic sound using specially developed therapy-grade singing bowls.
I built a studio in my garden and launched Sound of Joo.
What began as a personal journey has grown into a practice that brings together everything I care about: science, sound, creativity, advocacy, and the belief that people deserve to feel heard and supported.
Alongside my practice, I am the EDS UK Area Coordinator for Woking
Where I support the local community, run events and advocate for greater awareness and understanding of conditions like hEDS.
My own journey has shaped my mission: to bridge the gap between healthcare and lived experience, helping people better understand their bodies, navigate their health journeys with confidence, and feel less alone.
I also bring with me a previous chapter that taught me the courage to build something from the ground up.
In 2013, I took a sabbatical from banking and launched a Korean street food business, growing it from food trucks to sites across London including Boxpark Shoreditch. The journey included guest appearances on The Daily Brunch Show and a mini-series filmed in Korea. That experience taught me creativity, resilience and the importance of trusting my instincts.
Today, Korean food and culture are finding their way back into my work through Echoes of Korea, a beautiful reminder that every chapter of our lives has something valuable to bring forward.
Everything I do is built on one belief:
People deserve to be listened to, understood and supported as a whole person, not just a collection of symptoms.

How I work
These values are woven into every aspect of my work, creating an experience that is compassionate, professional, deeply personalised, and rooted in the highest standards of care.
-
01 / Rigour
I hold myself to a standard beyond what is required, because many of the people I support come to me after feeling unheard, misunderstood or disappointed by previous experiences. They deserve a practitioner who has invested deeply in their craft and approaches this work with knowledge, sensitivity and care.
-
02 / Earned Trust
The people who find me are often the ones who've stopped trusting easily. I don't ask for it upfront. I build it through knowledge, consistency, and the way a session feels before it's even begun.
-
03 / Lived Authority
My expertise didn't come from a textbook alone. It came from navigating my own diagnosis, my own nervous system, my own body. That's not something I minimise, it's what makes everything I offer credible in a way that training alone never could.
-
04 / Creative Integrity
I believe the most powerful sound experiences exist where art and science meet. Whether creating an ambient electronic soundscape for a group journey, holding space through a Korean tea ceremony, or delivering a therapeutic 1:1 treatment, every detail is thoughtfully considered.
-
05 / Accessibility Without Compromise
I keep my health coaching fees deliberately low and donate a portion to the EDS charity. I also offer financial hardship spaces for sound treatments to those who feel they would benefit but may not otherwise be able to access them. I remember what it felt like to need something and not be able to access it, and I'm not building a practice that forgets that.
